A territory that is magical, variable, of many forms, which, from the different sides of the Montalcino hill, slowly rolls into the enchanting Val d’Orcia to the foot of Amiata mountain on one side while on the other it slopes down into the plains that lead to the sea. Harmonious curves and wispy elevations that alternate from thick forest to olive groves, from vineyards to fields of wheat. Little parcels of land marked by isolated country homes, majestic castles, little country churches surrounded by their own little hamlets. This is the territory of Brunello Crossing which the medieval town of Montalcino looks over. Whoever chooses to run with us will enjoy all this and more including the outstanding products that come from this territory which make it an absolute star the world over.

For registered participants of Brunello Crossing, their family and friends only, there will be a chance to tour the cellars of local wineries and taste Rosso and Brunello di Montalcino paired with best in local food. During these tours, the production process – both agricultural and winemaking – that leads to the final product will be explained, and there will be a tour of the vinification and ageing cellars in addition to a tasting of the vintages that the individual wineries choose to present.

The following tours are available:

The menu will be up to the individual wineries that will offer one of these two options: it may be be a cold lunch (canapés, cold cuts, cheese, salad) or the lunch may include a starter and a hot first or second dish.

Both types of tours will take place on Saturday, February 10, 2018. Those who participate will be divided into groups of 10-20 people according to the type of tour and participating wineries.

All those who sign up for the Winery Tour and Tasting -either option- can also participate in a free tour of the Civic and Diocesan Museum and the ramparts of the Fortress of Montalcino, which will be organized at two different times: 3 p.m. or 5 p.m. The entrance to the Museum is directly opposite the place where you will pick up your race bibs and where the Brunello Crossing staff will present the race routes in the late afternoon. The Museum and Fortress tours are made possible by the collaboration of the Pro Loco of Montalcino.

Participants are kindly asked to write to iscrizioni@brunellocrossing.it and include their telephone number and preferred tour time as well as if they are participating individually or are part of a group that is already formed, and if they are interested or not in using the shuttle service for the tour and tasting. We would also ask participants to please indicate if they would like to participate in the guided tour of the Museum and Fortress and preferred tour time. You will then be contacted by the organization about one week before the event with the details and the winery that you will be assigned.

Montalcino, the lone hill between the Val d'Orcia

(a UNESCO World Heritage Site since July 2004) and the Valle dell’Ombrone where rivers of the same name run. Montalcino provides the perfect location for trail running; large climbs and descents as well as steep trails from its highest point, 680 m.a.s.l. to its lowest at 120 m.a.s.l., through the woods, which cover about 50% of the area, vineyards, and the famous Sienese hills, marked by numerous paths, mule tracks, cartroads, and historical routes like the Francigena and the Maremmana

Even the time period is no coincidence. Striving to maintain the link with the Consorzio del Brunello di Montalcino, the event will take place on the weekend prior to Benvenuto Brunello (the presentation of the latest vintage of Brunello di Montalcino released on the market that year): the second Sunday in February, guaranteeing weather conditions for real trail races!
